BRAJ KI HOLI

braj also known as brij or brijbhoomi, was
lord Krishna’s childhood hometown.

As the legend goes, as a child, lord Krishna
would cry to his mother about Goddesses Radha being fair
while he had a dark complexion then in a playful way his mother
advised him to smear colour on Radha,
thus giving birth to Braj ki holi.

Every year, lord Krishna would travel from his village (Nandgaon)
to Goddess Radha (Barsana), where Radha and the gopis
would mock him with sticks, this tradition has beer caried forward through
generations and now celebrated as lathmar holi.

Phool wali holi, during which as leela (The dance of passion)
is performed & holi is played with colourful flowers and colour.

Widow's holi at Vrindavan, most special and emotional celebrations
for the widows of the town, who at one time were forbidden to play
with colours now, they smear coloured powder
on each other.

Overall, Braj ki holi is a colourful & exuberant celebration
that showcases the essence of Indian culture and
devotion to Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha.
